There's something about that name. Wilmer Cabrera, Jr., son of Houston Dynamo head coach Wilmer Cabrera (obviously), was named 2017-18 MVP at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, where he attends school and plays for their U-19 U.S. Soccer Development Academy team.

Cabrera the Younger, set to graduate this spring, led the IMG Academy with 17 goals in 22 appearances this season with one regular season match to play. Cabrera has also played for the Dynamo Academy in the Generation adidas Cup and spent time in preseason training with the Dynamo first team. He made two appearances for the first team during the Mobile Mini Sun Cup, totaling 39 minutes of play. He joined IMG in 2016 from the Colorado Rapids Academy, and has scored 29 goals across his two seasons in Florida.

The future looks bright for the young Cabrera as he looks one day to join his father and brother, David (a midfielder for the Dynamo's hybrid USL affiliate RGV FC Toros), in the professional ranks. He takes the next steps this summer as he plays for the Dynamo's PDL affiliate, Brazos Valley Cavalry FC, who kick off their season this Saturday.
