Rio Grande Valley FC Toros and Swope Park Rangers play to scoreless draw

The RGV FC Toros travelled to Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas Sunday afternoon to take on Swope Park Rangers, playing to scoreless draw.

The action started early in the seventh minute as RGV FC captain Todd Wharton curled a free kick for Jordan Jones, resulting in a shot saved from point-blank range by Swope Park goalkeeper Christian Herrera. The rebound fell to defender Conor Donovan, but the follow-up attempt was also denied by Herrara. Midfielder Pablo Aguilar tried to conjure his magic touch in the 29th minute as he set up for a free kick from 20 yards away, just to the left of the box. His attempt beat Herrera but clanged off the near post and out for a goal kick. Aguilar hit the same post in first half stoppage time as he attempted an acrobatic volley inside the penalty area.

The second half saw decidedly less action as neither team was able to mount any serious pressure on the opposing goal.

Andrew Wenger of the Houston Dynamo saw his first game action since exiting an MLS match against Colorado Rapids after just 25 minutes on June 9. Wenger played the first half at right back for RGV FC.

The RGV FC Toros return to action at H-E-B Park Saturday July 28 against Colorado Spring Switchbacks FC as they look to avenge a defeat back in April. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
