International Roundup: Canada advance to Concacaf Women’s knockout round

Three Houston Dash players saw action in the final group matchday of the Concacaf Women’s Championship at H-E-B Park as Canada advanced to the knockout round of the tournament with a 3-1 victory over Costa Rica.  


Allysha Chapman and Nichelle Prince earned their second start of the tournament and Prince scored her third goal of the competition. The forward was also named the Concacaf player of the match after her game-winning goal secured the top spot for Canada in Group B. Chapman tallied an assist prior to leaving the game in the 63rd minute for her Dash teammate Lindsay Agnew.  


Canada will face Panama at 4 p.m. on Sunday and the U.S. Women’s National Team will face Jamaica at 7 p.m. to decide two of the automatic berths for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Both matches will air live on Fox Sports 1. The winners of each match will also advance to the conference championship on Wednesday.  


The winner of the third-place match will secure the final Concacaf berth. The fourth-place team will face Argentina in a two-leg playoff to advance to the World Cup.
