Three Things to Watch

  1. KICK OFF THE SEASON IN STYLE – The Dynamo will look to earn all three points with a win on Opening Day for the third straight year under head coach Wilmer Cabrera. In two Opening Day matches under Cabrera, Houston knocked off defending Western Conference champion Seattle Sounders FC 2-1 in 2017 and crushed eventual MLS Cup champions Atlanta United 4-0 to open the 2018 season.
  2. MANAGING TWO COMPETITIONS – While Saturday’s match is extremely important for the Dynamo, it’s only one part of a very busy and very important week for the club. Cabrera and his staff must manage minutes for their top players, because they also take on Mexican powerhouse Tigres UANL on Tuesday night in the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League quarterfinals. A win over Tigres in the home-and-home series (return leg is Tues., March 12 in Monterrey) would move the Dynamo one step closer to the first international title in club history.
  3. KEEP THE GOALS COMING – The Dynamo have set club scoring records in each of Cabrera’s two seasons, bagging 57 and then 58 goals in 2017 and 2018, respectively. Continuing to keep the flood gates open is Houston’s most direct path to success this year. Under Cabrera, when they’ve scored two or more goals, they are 26-5-9, and they’re 17-0-2 when scoring three or more.
