The Houston Dynamo open defense of their U.S. Open Cup title, hosting USL Championship side Austin Bold at BBVA Compass Stadium Tuesday night. 

A year ago, the Dynamo defeated the Philadelphia Union, 3-0, to capture their first U.S. Open Cup title and first domestic hardware since back-to-back MLS Cup titles in 2006 and 2007.

Houston Dynamo

The Dynamo will be confident Tuesday night playing at BBVA Compass Stadium, where they are unbeaten in nine league games, including a 1-1 draw against Sporting Kansas City on June 1.

Yohan Croizet put Sporting in front in the 63rd minute, but Alberth Elis responded with the equalizer six minutes later.

A year ago, the Dynamo enjoyed home cooking throughout the competition, beating NTX Rayados, Minnesota United, Sporting Kansas City, LAFC and the Union all at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Austin Bold FC

Austin Bold, a club founded in 2017 and playing in its inaugural season in the USL Championship, defeated Tulsa Roughnecks FC, 2-0, in the second round at Bold Stadium. Sonny Guardarrama and Andre Lima scored a goal in each half.

In the third round, Austin raced out to a 3-0 first-half lead on goals by Brazilian Kleber, Guardarrama and Lima, who added his second goal in the 62nd minute. Former Dynamo defender Jermaine Taylor also features for Austin.
