HOUSTON (Tuesday, June 18, 2019) – Houston Dash defender Taylor Comeau announced her retirement from professional soccer earlier today. Comeau made the announcement this afternoon/evening on her personal Instagram/Twitter account. “I want to thank the Dash and the NWSL for the opportunity to be a professional female athlete,” Comeau said in her retirement post. “I also want to thank my teammates, family, and friends for always inspiring me to get better. Lastly, I want to thank the fans for all of the constant support.” Comeau started her NWSL career with the Portland Thorns in 2015 after completing a successful collegiate career at the University of California, Berkeley. At Berkeley, Comeau played as a midfielder earning Pac 12 All-Academic, Second-Team All-Pac-12 honors and led the team with eight goals in her senior season. After logging nine appearances in Portland during her first season as a national team replacement, the Los Gatos, California native was named to the 2016 Chicago Red Stars final roster after being a trialist there. Comeau logged 47 appearances, scoring two goals for the Red Stars over two seasons. The defender played a crucial part for Chicago in 2016, when she scored the game-winning goal against the Orlando Pride to secure a spot in the playoffs. On June 18, 2018, the Dash acquired Comeau in a mid-season trade with Chicago. Comeau spent the remainder of the season with Houston, starting all 11 of the games she played with the club. After starting on Opening Day this season, the defender suffered a broken arm in training which has sidelined her for the remainder of the season.
