The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros close out their three-match homestand this Saturday when they face Sacramento Republic FC at 7:30 pm CT.

RGV FC are coming off a 1-0 loss to league leaders Phoenix Rising FC in their last match on June 13. Phoenix forward Adam Jahn scored his tenth goal of the season in the 62nd minute after goalkeeper Tyler Deric, on a one-match loan to RGV from the parent club Houston Dynamo, was unable to successfully clear Jahn’s header, which came off a cross from forward Solomon Asante, who added to his league lead in assists. RGV’s best chance came in the 53rd minute, when forward Carlos Small’s shot found the woodwork and ricocheted away from the goal.

RGV FC, kept off the score sheet for 365 consecutive minutes, will look to break out of their scoring slump against Sacramento. Small, along with striker Wilmer Cabrera Jr, are currently the team’s leading forwards, and will try to jumpstart the offense for the Toros. Defender Kyle Adams currently leads the team in clearances, with 79, and looks to add to his total against the Republic.

Sacramento Republic FC are currently eighth in the Western Conference standings, most recently defeating Portland Timbers 2 1-0 at home on July 13. On the road this season, Sacramento Republic FC are 3-5-0. Last season, RGV FC were 0-1-1 against the Republic, battling to a 2-2 tie at H-E-B Park on March 31 and falling 2-1 on August 11 at Papa Murphy’s Park.

Sacramento Republic FC’s offense is led by forward Cameron Iwasa, who is currently tied for eighth in the USL Championship with 9 goals. Goalkeeper Josh Cohen is currently tied for fourth in the league in clean sheets with 7. Sacramento Republic FC is coached by former MLS midfielder and New Zealand international Simon Elliott, who is in his second season with the Republic after being hired by the club prior to the 2018 season.

The match will be streamed on ESPN+ at 7:30 pm CT.
