Recap: Dash fall to Reign FC at BBVA Stadium

The Houston Dash offense fell short this evening as they were held scoreless in a 1-0 loss to Reign FC at BBVA Stadium this evening.

Reign FC scored the lone goal of the game in the 21st minute when midfielder Rosie White beat Dash defender Ally Prisock to a loose ball inside the penalty area and finished to give the visiting team the lead.

Forward Rachel Daly generated Houston’s first threat of the game in the 16th minute when midfielder Sofia Huerta found the English international in space. Daly’s right-footed effort went wide of the left-post.

Houston responded quickly to the lone goal of the game as forward Kyah Simon shot from outside the box two minutes after the Reign took the lead, sending the ball just wide of the goal.

The Dash continued to press in the 25th minute when midfielder Kristie Mewis dribbled into the box and played a ball to Daly on the edge of the box. The forward rushed to get a touch on the ball, but was beat by Reign defender Celia Jimenez.

Houston came close to leveling the game in the 29th minute when midfielder Christine Nairn slid a ball through the Reign backline to Daly’s feet. The English native was inches away from forcing a save from Reign goalkeeper Casey Murphy at the right post.

One minute later, forward Kealia Ohai found Huerta by the left post of the Reign goal and lunged to make contact with the ball but her effort was inches wide of the post.

Ohai kept creating chances for Houston. In the 53rd minute, Ohai found Mewis inside the box off a cross that was soon headed wide. Mewis tested her luck again in the 73rd minute at the edge of the box, shooting a left-footed effort that forced a save from Murphy.

Houston was on the attack again in the 78th minute when Ohai cut to her outside foot and dribbled through the Reign backline, eventually forcing a save from Murphy at the bottom corner of the far post.

Next week, the Dash will travel to Florida to face the Orlando Pride for the third time this season at 8:30 p.m. CDT on Saturday, August 8th at Exploria Stadium. The match will be streamed live on Yahoo!Sports.
