Houston Dynamo forward Alberth Elis and defender Maynor Figueroa have been called in by the Honduras National Team for a pair of upcoming international friendly matches, the Honduras Fútbol Federation (FENAFUTH) announced today.
Honduras will host Puerto Rico on Sept. 5 in Tegulcigalpa and play Chile on Sept. 10 in San Pedro Sula.
Elis has been capped 37 times and has scored seven goals for his country. The 23-year-old winger has already recorded 28 goals and 22 assists in MLS regular-season action for the Dynamo during his two-plus seasons in Houston, and is just the fifth player in club history to notch 20 or more goals and 20-plus assists in league play.
Figueroa serves as captain of the Honduran national team and holds the all-time record for most appearances for Los Catrachos, with 157 in his career. The left-footed center back has started 20 of Houston’s 27 league matches this season, his first with the club. He has made nearly 400 appearances as a professional.
The Dynamo travel to Kansas this weekend to face Sporting Kansas City on Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. CDT before taking a break for the FIFA international fixture window.
