The Houston Dash acquired defender Erin Simon through a transfer with West Ham United in exchange for allocation money, the club announced today.
Simon returns to the NWSL after finishing a successful 2019 season with English side West Ham United where she logged 22 appearances. The New Jersey native spent the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons in NWSL with Sky Blue FC, earning a roster spot in the starting lineup after making her way up through open tryouts and impressing in preseason matches. The center-back started in 25 of 26 appearances with Sky Blue, tallying two assists in two seasons with the club.
At Syracuse, Simon played in 74 career games, splitting time between defender and forward. Simon played her first two seasons as a forward, recording nine goals and six assists for 24 points before moving back to defense with the Orange. As a junior and senior, Simon was a steady leader on the backline, starting in all 37 games that she played in.
The defender earned her first international call-up into the United States Women’s Under-23 team in 2019, earning two caps in the Nordic Cup against England and Sweden in Loughborough, England.
Simon joins a Houston side that finished the 2019 season with a 7-5-12 record under first-year head coach James Clarkson. The Dash expect to kick off their 2020 campaign in mid-April. The 2020 schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
With this transaction, the Dash now have 23 players on their active roster ahead of the 2020 NWSL season.
