Three of our Houston Dash players were still in tournament action this week as the Concacaf Olympic Qualifiers round up. Canadian defender Allysha Chapman, midfielder Sophie Schmidt and forward Nichelle Prince all qualified for Tokyo 2020 in a victory on Friday night.

Canada faced off against Costa Rico in the semifinals with a spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics on the line. Chapman and Schmidt started the match and played the full 90. Canada was just barely able to get away with a win, the goal coming in the 72nd minute. With the 1-0 victory, Canada sealed their spot this summer in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

On Sunday, Canada faced an old foe in the USA for the tournament title. This is the fourth consecutive qualifying tournament where Canada and USA have squared off in the finals. Schmidt started the match, playing 74 minutes before being subbed off. Chapman entered the match in the 65th minute, but was unable to help Canada find the back of the net. The Canadians lost 3-0 to the United States.

Up next for the Canada Women’s National Team is the Tournoi de France in Calais, France and Valenciennes, France. They will face the hosts France, the Netherlands and Brazil in tournament play.
