Update on BBVA Stadium preparations for 3/14 match vs. Seattle Sounders

031120 Stadium General

We know that you’ve been watching the coverage of the ongoing COVID19 situation closely, and you may be wondering what the Dynamo are doing to prepare for this weekend’s home match against Seattle Sounders FC.

Our fans’ health and safety is our top priority any time we prepare for an event, and we have been monitoring the situation closely. Our senior leadership, including our Club President and our Chief Medical Officer, have been in daily communication with Major League Soccer regarding the situation as it evolves.

Before focusing on our preparations, we wanted to share some key information on COVID19 and how it is spread, along with what individuals can do to minimize their risk of infection:

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), if you haven’t been in an area where COVID-19 is spreading or been in close contact with someone who has been infected, your chances of getting COVID-19 are currently low. It is spread primarily through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes, or by touching an infected surface.

As individuals, the best things that we can do are to wash our hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water, washing for at least 20 seconds each time; avoid touching our eyes, noses and mouths; staying home if we feel sick; coughing or sneezing into the crook of our elbow rather than into our hands; and altering our greetings to avoid handshakes, hugs, etc.

On our end, we have already undertaken several measures to ensure that BBVA Stadium is a healthy environment for all of our fans on Saturday evening. The Stadium already had 48 hand sanitizer dispensers installed throughout the building, and we’re adding more, particularly near each entry gate, so that you never have to look far if you need one.

Additionally, our housekeeping staff has increased the frequency of cleaning patrols, and all public surfaces will be wiped down with alcohol before the game. High-traffic areas such as concession stands and restrooms will be wiped down again with increased frequency throughout the event as well as afterward.

All of our event staff who handle money, food and tickets will wear latex gloves in order to ensure sanitary conditions for everyone. Additionally, we have asked our staff to avoid handshakes or high fives and have instructed them to stay home if they feel sick. We are also installing signage in all restroom facilities reminding our guests to wash their hands thoroughly.

Out of an abundance of caution, we have asked our players to avoid handshakes or high fives and to avoid taking pens or items to autograph from fans. All team spaces, including both locker rooms, will be thoroughly cleaned before and after the match and will be wiped down during the match.

Please know that we will continue to monitor the situation and take every possible precaution over the coming days leading up to Saturday’s match, and we hope to see you at BBVA Stadium Saturday evening.
