Academy Recap: Dynamo host Austin FC and navigate first road trip

The Houston Dynamo Academy opened their second week of MLS Next activity with a 2-0 victory for the U-13 squad over Austin FC at Houston Sports Park on Saturday. Jorge ‘Lalo’ Estrada scored the first goal of the game; and a well-timed press on a goal kick led to an error and the final goal of the game from Jorge Martinez


The U-14 Dynamo Academy squad conceded two scrappy goals in the first 10 minutes and ultimately fell to Austin FC 4-1. Sebastián Ballesteros scored the lone goal for the Dynamo after constant pressure on the Austin backline. The Dynamo were denied by the crossbar and the Austin backline, who were forced to clear the ball after constant pressure from Isaac Mwakutuya, Ballesteros, and the Houston attack. 


The U-13 and U-14 teams host FC Dallas on Saturday at Houston Sports Park in their final match of a three-game stretch at home to open the MLS Next season. 

The final game on Saturday was decided by one goal as the U-15 Dynamo squad fell 1-0 to Austin at Houston Sports Park. The Dynamo created their fair share of scoring opportunities, but Austin capitalized on their transition play to earn the victory. This was the first match for the U-15 squad, who will host FC Dallas on Saturday. 


The U-19 squad made the first road trip of the MLS Next season on Sunday,heading north on I-45 to take on Solar SC in Dallas. A late push from Solar gave the home team a 2-0 victory. This was the first road game in seven months for the team and only the second game of the season for the U-19 squad. The Dynamo were denied by the Solar goalkeeper in three one-on-one opportunities as Houston created chances throughout the match. 


The U-17 squad will return to action on Saturday as each category host FC Dallas at Houston Sports park on Saturday, Sept. 26.
