Houston Dynamo FC Academy defender Tate Lampman was named to the roster for the 2023 MLS NEXT All-Star Game presented by Allstate, the league announced earlier today. Two teams will compete in an East vs. West format at 9:30 a.m. CT on July 19th at Glenn Warner Soccer Facility at the Naval Academy as part of the league’s All-Star Week in Washington, D.C.

“Tate is one of three talented players representing Houston Dynamo FC during MLS’s All-Star Week, alongside Héctor Herrera and Xavier Valdez,” Houston Dynamo General Manager Pat Onstad said. “We emphasize the connectivity between all levels of our Club, and we are proud to have representation from our first team, MLS NEXT Pro team, and Academy team at the All-Star festivities in D.C.”

The 16-year-old is one of 44 players selected to participate in the All-Star Game that provides a world-class experience for the best young players in North America to showcase their talent on a national stage. Lampman, a U17 Academy standout all season, has already appeared in three matches (one start) for Dynamo 2 this season, winning 70 percent of his duels and recording three interceptions to help Houston sit eighth in the Western Conference.

“We are thrilled that Tate has earned this opportunity to represent our club at MLS All-Star week,” Dynamo Academy General Manager Tony Vigil said. “He had an impressive season with the U17 team and is now regularly competing with Dynamo 2 and training with our first team. His advancement in our pathway showcases the opportunities available for young players at the Club. I am happy for Tate and his family, and this recognition is another valuable checkpoint for the project we are building in Houston. We look forward to seeing Tate continue his progress at the Club.”

The league recently announced that Dynamo captain Héctor Herrera was named to the 2023 Major League Soccer All-Star Game roster, which will face Arsenal FC at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. on July 19. The league also recently announced that Dynamo goalkeeper Xavier Valdez was one of four MLS NEXT Pro goalkeepers selected to participate in the Goalie Wars competition during MLS All-Star Week in on July 18.
