Navas Cobo makes Dynamo debut

Francisco Navas Cobo, a former member of the Houston Dynamo Academy, made his professional debut with the Houston Dynamo first team against Chivas USA on April 17, 2010. Navas Cobo is the second Academy
player to sign with the first team and the first to appear in a regular season game.

Home-Grown Players

Outstanding Dynamo Academy players are designated as Dynamo home-grown players and remain eligible to be promoted directly to the Dynamo first team without being subject to the MLS SuperDraft. Players must be designated as Dynamo home-grown players before entering a four-year college or the United States U-17 national team residency program.

Academy U-18

Founded in 2007, the Dynamo Academy U-18 squad consists of the best youth players in the Houston area aged 17-18. They train four days per week in a professional environment and compete in the United States Soccer Federation Development Academy league, the most competitive youth league in the country.

The team also plays international games, including the prestigious Copa Chivas tournament in 2010, its first ever European trip in 2009, and regular trips to Mexico; and domestic tournaments such as the SUM U-17 Cup and the Dynamo Alliance Cup.

Academy U-16

Founded in 2007, the Dynamo Academy U-16 squad consists of the best youth players in the Houston area aged 14-16. They train four days per week in a professional environment and compete in the United States Soccer Federation Development Academy league, the most competitive youth league in the country.

The team also plays international games, including trips to Mexico and El Salvador, and tournaments like the Dallas Cup.

South Texas Academy

On September 27, 2007, the Dynamo announced the creation of the Dynamo South Texas Academy as the franchise’s first satellite academy. The Dynamo and the McAllen Youth Soccer Association will partner to develop young talent in the Rio Grande Valley region of South Texas with DSTA teams, which will train and compete in several South Texas cities, including McAllen, Harlingen, and Brownsville.

A maximum pool of 36 players will be selected for each age group, and players from each age group will have the opportunity to be designated as Dynamo home-grown players. Many have trained with the full Dynamo Academy, and the DSTA participates each year in the Dynamo Academy College Combine, showcasing their skills for college recruiters.

Junior Academy U-14

The Dynamo Junior Academy U-14 squad trains together while preparing for the transition to the Dynamo Academy U-16 team. Players may remain with their current club teams and will train twice per week during the school year. Training sessions will be held at Moody Park, located at 3725 Fulton. Successful players will have the opportunity to progress directly into the Dynamo Academy.

The Junior Academy aims to have a positive impact on each player's development on and off the field. The Junior Academy curriculum follows the Dynamo Academy curriculum and focuses on skill and technique development, so the Dynamo will not be forming teams or playing in local competitions.

College Combine

The Houston Dynamo Youth Development System, presented by Statoil, hosts a college combine each year in January or February, to allow college coaches to be exposed to the best soccer talent in South Texas. Dynamo Academy teams are made up of the best players in the Houston aream and the Dynamo South Texas Academy includes 70 of the best players from the Rio Grande Valley. Guest teams in the past have included FC Dallas and Toronto FC.

The combine offers the opportunity for college coaches to view Dynamo Academy players in a very competitive game setting.
