Dynamo to participate in Atlanta Challenge

The Houston Dynamo will participate in the 2011 Atlanta Pro Soccer Challenge, to take place March 9-13, it was announced today. The tournament is being hosted by the Atlanta Beat of Women’s Professional Soccer and will take place at the Kennesaw State University Soccer Stadium in Kennesaw, Ga. Fans and media can track the Dynamo’s preseason schedule at HoustonDynamo.com/preseason-schedule.

The round-robin tournament will include the Dynamo, the Columbus Crew, and the New England Revolution. The tournament will kick off on March 9 with Columbus facing New England. The Dynamo will face the Crew on Friday, March 11, at 6:30 p.m. CT. Houston will close the tournament against New England in a rematch of two previous MLS Cup finals on Sunday, March 13, at a time to be announced. Tickets are available at AtlantaBeat.com.

The tournament organizer is T. Fitz Johnson, owner of the Atlanta Beat, which played the opening match at the KSU Soccer Stadium in May 2010.

“Atlanta has shown strong support for soccer events throughout the city,” said Johnson. “This is a great opportunity to see if an MLS franchise will be a good fit for the market as we host the tournament in our brand-new soccer-specific facility.”

The March 13 match will be the Dynamo’s final preseason contest before their MLS regular season opener, set for Saturday, March 19, against the Philadelphia Union at Robertson Stadium. Tickets are available by clicking here.
