The BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup is an annual event that pits the Houston Dynamo against an international opponent in the name of charity. A portion of the proceeds from the match are donated to a different charitable cause each year by Dynamo Charities.

The inaugural BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup match was held in 2009, and saw the Dynamo beat Mexican club Monterrey 2-1. In 2010, the Dynamo welcomed Águila from San Miguel, El Salvador, and rolled to a 4-0 win in front of a crowd of 11,843, surpassing the attendance from the inaugural edition. The 2011 match saw the Dynamo take on their first European opponent, English Premier League club Bolton Wanderers, and Bolton came away with a 2-0 win.

In 2012, the Dynamo hosted Valencia CF of Spain in the fourth BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup with the visitors earning a 2-1 victory before a sellout crowd at the new BBVA Compass Stadium. The Dynamo welcomed former club star Geoff Cameron and Stoke City FC of the English Premier League in 2013, coming away with a 2-0 win over the Potters. In 2014, the Dynamo fell 1-0 to visiting Aston Villa.

Mauro Manotas and Chandler Hoffman each scored two goals as the Houston Dynamo captured the BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup with a 4-0 victory over Santos Laguna in 2015.

The Dynamo will host Real Sociedad of Spain's La Liga in the 2016 Dynamo Charities Cup match on Tuesday, May 24. Proceeds from the match will benefit the Pursuit for those with disABILITIES bicycle ride, a 3,500-mile cross-country trek to raise money and awareness for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
