The Houston Dynamo Academy U-16 squad continued its April struggles in USSF Development Academy league play Sunday, losing 5-0 to the Dallas Texans Houston at Meyer Park in Spring. Since their run to the Dallas Cup U-16 bracket title, the U-16s have been outscored 9-0 in three loses.
Steven Bonilla put DTH on the board in the fifth minute with an open-net rebound off a strike by Philip Parker. Twelve minutes later the pair connected again. This time Parker dribbled his way into the box and past two defenders before dishing to Bonilla for the score.
The quick footwork and passing ability of the Texans proved troublesome for the young Dynamo squad. Forward Leobardo Vazquez scored two second-half goals, and forward Christian Duarte added another in a second half that was dominated by the Texans.
The U-18 squad found hard luck in a different way, leading 1-0 after 57 minutes when the skies opened up, and thunder and lightning rolled in. After a mandatory 30-minute delay, the referees postponed the game despite Houston's lead. The Dynamo goal came in the 48th minute when Josue Morales (Houston Chavez) connected with Sebastien Ibeagha (Fort Bend Hightower) on a beautiful free kick from 30 yards out. Under USSF Development Academy league rules, the game will be replayed in its entirety at a later date.
Dynamo Academy teams, presented by Statoil, return to action next weekend with games against FC Dallas on Saturday and Andromeda (Plano) on Sunday. The U-16s kick off 6 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. on Sunday, while the U-18s follow at 8 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday. All games will be played at the Carl Lewis Track & Field Complex on the campus of the University of Houston.
