Boniek Garcia named to MLSsoccer.com Team of the Week after big performance in 2-0 win over Chicago

Houston Dynamo midfielder Boniek Garcia returned to the starting lineup on Sunday against the Chicago Fire and delivered a performance worthy of man of the match notoriety. For his efforts, Garcia was named to the MLSSoccer.com Team of the Week for week 29.

Garcia scored his first goal since opening night, a wonderful volley to cap a strong buildup that started with Luis Garrido and included a quality cross from Kofi Sarkodie and calm header from Brad Davis. The goal is a nominee for MLS Goal of the Week (VOTE HERE.)

The two-time Honduras World Cup veteran also produced two wonderful passes, beginning with a lofted ball from behind midfield to Giles Barnes, who nearly beat Sean Johnson over the top with a deft chip.

In the second half, Garcia split the Chicago defense with a well-weighted through ball for Barnes, who forced another save from Johnson.

The league website summarized Garcia’s performance:

If not for two huge saves by Sean Johnson, Boniek walks out with two assists and a goal in his first game back from concussion. Houston won anyway, 2-0.”
