The Houston Dynamo will open the 2016 MLS regular season on Sunday, March 6 at BBVA Compass Stadium against the New England Revolution. The remainder of the Dynamo’s 34-game schedule will be announced by MLS on January 7.
The 2016 home opener against the Revolution will kick off at 2 p.m. CT. New England (14-12-8; 50 points) finished in fifth place in the Eastern Conference in the 2015 regular season. The Revolution were eliminated in the Eastern Conference Knockout Round by D.C. United.
The 2016 season will be the second in Houston for head coach Owen Coyle, who compiled an 11-14-9 record in his first year. Midfielder Ricardo Clark signed a new contract with the team after taking home Dynamo MVP, Players’ Player of the Year and Humanitarian of the Year for his performance in 2015. The team also extended contracts for Giles Barnes, Will Bruin, Tyler Deric, Boniek García and Sheanon Williams. The home opener is set to be the first with the Dynamo for midfielders Cristian Maidana and Andrew Wenger, acquired via trade at the beginning of December.
New England features midfielder Lee Nguyen (7 goals, 10 assists in 2015) and forward Charlie Davies (10 goals, 4 assists). The Revolution roster also includes 2015 All-Star defender Chris Tierney (2 goals, 6 assists) and U.S. international forward Juan Agudelo (7 goals, 3 assists).
The Dynamo have won their last four home openers dating back to the opening of BBVA Compass Stadium, including a 4-0 win over New England in 2014. Houston is 6-1-3 all time in home openers.
