Univision and UniMás will be the Spanish-language home of the Houston Dynamo, the two organizations announced today. UniMás Houston will televise four Dynamo matches, in addition to six which will air nationally on the network. As part of the agreement, Univision Radio will broadcast every Dynamo game this season locally on 1010 AM KLAT.

The four matches appearing exclusively on UniMás Houston represent the first local Univision agreement in MLS. The Spanish-language broadcaster will pre-empt national programming to broadcast each of the matches. The first Dynamo match to air on UniMás Houston will be on Saturday, July 2 when the Dynamo host the Philadelphia Union.

“Landing this partnership with Univision is a major business development for our club. It presents a whole new opportunity for us to promote the Dynamo brand and further extend our fan base,” said Dynamo President Chris Canetti. We are thrilled to have all of our games on Univision Radio and four exclusive broadcasts on UniMas. I’d like to thank Univision for its belief in the Dynamo and seeing our vision for the future. I think we are a great fit for each other.”

The local deal with Univision Houston follows the network’s relationship as a national broadcaster partner for MLS, highlighted by its Viernes de Fútbol telecasts on Friday night throughout the season. KFTH UniMás 67 is targeted to entertain “the Más Generation” – Hispanic Millennials who are looking for more – by counter-programming Univision with a powerhouse lineup of drama, movies, sports, talk, comedy and action.

“Hispanic sports fanáticos in Houston love soccer and UniMás Houston is committed to bringing them the best content available,” said Univision Houston Senior Vice President and General Manager, David Loving. “We’re proud to be entering into a new, groundbreaking partnership with the Houston Dynamo so that we can deliver the best soccer programming to our viewers.”

Univision Radio becomes the new home for Dynamo Spanish radio broadcasts. KLAT 1010 AM will air every Houston Dynamo game throughout the season, beginning with Sunday’s season opener against the New England Revolution. Veteran broadcaster Daniel Mejia will handle play-by-play duties for all radio broadcasts. He’ll be joined in the booth by KXLN Univision 45 Sports Anchor Lester Gretsch, who will provide match analysis.

Broadcast talent for UniMás telecasts will be announced at a later date.
