A new security and screening policy will take effect at BBVA Compass Stadium beginning with Saturday’s Houston Dynamo vs. Sporting Kansas City MLS match, stadium officials announced today. The new procedures, which are part of Major League Soccer’s new stadium security policy, will be in effect at every event held at the stadium moving forward.
The biggest change for guests entering the stadium will be the new screening policy in which each person entering the stadium will be scanned with a handheld metal detector.
"The safety and security of our guests is the number one priority for our organization. It is appropriate for us to take on these newly implemented security measures to best ensure public safety. Our staff is well trained in such measures, and we expect minimal impact to the enjoyment of our fan experience,” said Dynamo President Chris Canetti.
The policy was introduced in mid-April by MLS and has already been implemented across all clubs with positive results. It also includes an updated list of permitted bags, which brings the rest of the league up to the standard that was already in place at BBVA Compass Stadium. Prohibited bags include, but are not limited to, backpacks, briefcases, camera and computer bags, coolers, luggage of any kind and any bag larger than 14”x14”x6”.
The changes will keep BBVA Compass Stadium up to date with best stadium security practices across all professional sports and major events. The stadium will increase staffing at all gates to expedite the entry process, however all guests are encouraged to arrive early, and to not bring a bag if possible.
