RGV FC Toros secure second straight win, shutout with 1-0 result over Swope Park Rangers

The Rio Grande Valley FC Toros defeated Swope Park Rangers at home 1-0. Todd Wharton scored the lone goal in the match.


The first shot of the match came in the 11th minute. RGV’s Borja Angoitia denied Kevin Oliviera’s shot. In the 18th minute the Toros found the back of the net. Eric Bird passed the ball to Todd Wharton with a back heel after Kai Greene threw the ball in from the sideline. Wharton took control of the ball and found the corner of the goal.


Angoitia denied the Rangers once again in the 34th minute. He denied Nansel Selbol’s attempt at goal. The Toros headed over to the second half with the slim lead. 


Swope Park Rangers controlled most of the possession in the second half. The Toros defensive unit was able to deny all of Swope Park’s offensive drives. The Toros almost doubled their lead in stoppage time. TJ Casner dribbled the ball and took his shot, but Andrew Dykstra, goalkeeper for the Rangers, denied him. Ruben Luna could not get his shot off the rebound to go inside the goal.


Rio Grande Valley got their second straight win and held a clean sheet in both matches. The Toros will now prepare to face LA Galaxy II on Saturday, May 20. The game will kick off at 7:30p.m at H-E-B Park.
