Houston Dynamo announce 2018 preseason schedule

The Houston Dynamo will open preseason training in preparation for their 2018 MLS campaign on Tuesday, January 23, the club announced today.

Over the course of six weeks, head coach Wilmer Cabrera and his staff will work to finalize the roster and shape the team that will take the field for Houston’s 2018 season opener against Atlanta United FC on Saturday, March 3 at BBVA Compass Stadium. 

The Dynamo will hold their annual Open Practice, which is free and open to all fans, on Saturday, January 27 at Houston Sports Park at 10:00 a.m. CST. In conjunction with the Open Practice, Dynamo Charities will host a Fire Sale fundraiser at which fans can purchased team-issued Dynamo and Dash gear at discounted prices. All proceeds from the Fire Sale will go to fund Dynamo Charities programs such as the Special Olympics Dynamo Unified Team, the Dynamo GOALS in-school program and Dynamo For A Day, which provides a once-in-a-lifetime experience for deserving children by making them a part of the team for a day. 

After a week of training in Houston, the Dynamo will travel to the Rio Grande Valley from January 29-February 4 to practice with RGV FC, the club’s hybrid USL affiliate. The Dynamo will play a pair of matches while in the Valley, taking on UTRGV men’s soccer team on Wednesday, Jan. 31 and RGV FC on Saturday, Feb. 3.

After a brief return to Houston and a scrimmage at Houston Sports Park on Feb. 10, the team will make its annual pilgrimage to Tucson, Arizona to compete in the 2018 Mobile Mini Sun Cup preseason tournament. The team will play four games in Tucson, facing off against MLS foes Portland Timbers on Feb. 14 and New York Red Bulls on Feb. 17, along with USL team and tournament host Phoenix Rising FC on Feb. 21 before a final game on Feb. 24 which will be determined based on the results of the first three games in the tournament.

For the third consecutive year, all of the Dynamo’s matches in Tucson will be streamed live free of charge. Specific details will be announced in the coming days.

Following the conclusion of the tournament, the Dynamo will return to Houston and begin final preparations for Opening Day presented by Pepsi Zero Sugar the following weekend.
