The FIFA Women’s World Cup may be a little under a year away, but the Men’s World Cup is in full swing over in Russia. As the Dash players follow the world’s biggest tournament from home, they share their favored picks and why.

Janine Van Wyk leaned towards historic Brazil.

“They’re a dynamic team and highly experienced. I watched a couple of their players dominated throughout all of Champions League and I think they’ve just grown so much as a team together,” she said. “They have a great philosophy of keeping the ball and a great dynamic attack. I don’t see many defenders stopping them.”

Mana Shim stayed true to her loyalties when she picked Argentina stating,”Messi deserves a World Cup and I’ve always been an Argentina supporter.”

Goalkeeper coach Blair Quinn is going a different route than others. His pick is Belgium.

“Everybody thinks they’re the ‘dark horse,’ that 'they could (win it and surprise people)', but I don’t think they’re the dark horse. I just think they’re good enough to do it,” he explained. “They’ve got enough talent. I think they’re a legitimate team.”

Overall though, it seems like the team favorite throughout the Dash is powerhouse Germany.

“I don’t necessarily have an adamant answer on why,” Savannah Jordan admitted. “but I think they’ve always been a strong team, strong players and I like their style of play. I think they’re a very dominant and athletic team.”

“I’m going to say Germany just because they’re quality,” Kyah Simon expressed with a smile.

Vera Pauw, who rarely makes predictions decided, “It will be a final France-Germany and then Germany will win in the last five minutes - like they also do - and it will be 2-1.”

Knowing the fierce rivalry on the pitch between Germany and Pauw’s native Netherlands, she must feel confident in them to pick Die Mannschaft to repeat.
