Darwin Cerén named to El Salvador’s National Team Gold Cup roster

Houston Dynamo midfielder Darwin Cerén was named to El Salvador’s National Team for the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup, the Federacion Salvadoreña de Futbol announced yesterday.  


La Selecta will open Group C play on June 17 against Curaçao in Kingston, Jamaica. Four days later Cerén will return to BBVA Compass Stadium as El Salvador face Jamaica at 6 p.m. to open a doubleheader in Houston. Group C play comes to an end on June 25 as Cerén faces Dynamo teammates Alberth ElisMaynor FigueroaRomell Quioto and Honduras at Banc of California Stadium.  


Cerén has earned 48 caps with La Selecta and this is his callup since he led El Salvador to a 2-0 victory over Jamaica on March 23 to qualify for the Gold Cup. The midfielder withdrew from the national team prior to facing Peru on March 26 in Washington D.C.  


The midfielder earned his 100th league appearance in Houston’s 2-1 victory over the Montreal Impact on March 9 and has appeared in five games for the Dynamo across all competitions in 2019.
