The Houston Dynamo unveiled their new training field, the Methodist Champions Field, at a press conference today held at the Houston Amateur Sports Park south of downtown Houston. Sponsored by The Methodist Center for Sports Medicine, the Methodist Champions Field will be home to most Dynamo training sessions, effective immediately. The field will also host Dynamo reserve games.
“We are very excited to have a first-class facility for our team,” Dynamo president Chris Canetti said. “The Methodist Champions Field will be among the elite training fields in MLS and give our players a great environment in which they can best prepare for games. The addition of this field is another big step in the right direction for our organization.”
“I’m very excited about the opening about the complex," said Dr. Kaare Kolstad, orthopedic surgeon at the Methodist Center for Sports Medicine and Dynamo team physician. “It will feature a state-of-the-art rehabilitation sports center with lots of new, cutting-edge therapeutic technology.”
Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear and players inaugurated the Methodist Champions Field with their first training session today, and the club expects to continue regular training sessions there. The Dynamo have trained at the Carl Lewis Track & Field Complex at the University of Houston for the past five years.
“It’s nice to know that we have a field dedicated to us where we can concentrate on playing soccer,” said Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear. “We look forward to the day when the training complex is complete. We want to thank the Methodist Center for Sports Medicine and the City of Houston for working with the Houston Dynamo in making this happen for our more than deserving team and organization.”
The Houston Amateur Sports Park is scheduled to open for public use this spring and is also home to the Houston Dynamo Academy.
